Pop quiz. If you answer “yes” to the following three questions, I promise you will benefit from this post.
- Do you have a blog?
- Is your blog about personal finance or lifestyle?
- Do you want to increase your blog traffic?
Question #3 Hint: There’s no such thing as a blogger that doesn’t want more traffic.
If you spend any time at all reading personal finance blogs, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the famous Yakezie badge (shown on your right).
What is Yakezie?
With 98 members at the time of this writing, Yakezie is the largest personal finance and lifestyle blog network on the internet.
You may be wondering why I would take a brand new blog like Milk and Honey Money and link out to a few of the best personal finance blogs on the internet. Yes, I realize a large percentage of my potential readers will spend the rest of their day reading those blogs instead of Milk and Honey Money, but that’s the Yakezie way.
You see, Yakezie is all about selflessly helping others.
This is something I will support. It actually sounds like something taken straight out of my favorite book. Giving has been part of the Yakezie culture since the beginning.
As you can imagine, when you join a group of bloggers that are working together, building relationships, and selflessly helping one another, good things start to happen.
This is why I have joined the Yakezie Challenge.
How to Join the Yakezie Challenge
Although it’s free to be a Yakezie Member, everyone is required to first complete the Yakezie Challenge. It’s not easy and it will take quite a bit of time and energy, but that’s part of what makes Yakezie an elite network.
2. Write 2-4 times per week on your blog and consider writing a few guest posts in the community.
3. Install the Yakezie Challenger badge on your blog. My badge is in the footer.
4. Announce that you have joined the Yakezie Challenge on your blog. This post is my announcement.
5. Selflessly help and promote others.
6. Keep it up for 6 months! This is the minimum “challenge period” before you can be accepted as a member.
7. Introduce yourself on the Yakezie Challenger’s Forum and start building relationships with other Challengers and Members.
8. After 6 months, give an update of your progress in the forums, on your blog, and with an email. If you have successfully developed relationships, broken the 200,000 rank on Alexa, and embraced the Yakezie motto or selflessly helping and promoting others, you will be invited to fill out a form and write a Yakezie Member Post as an initiation.
Joining Yakezie Will Increase Your Blog Traffic
There is an extra bonus of joining the Yakezie Challenge. Simply follow the steps listed above and your blog will grow. As you can see from step 8, the goal is to get an Alexa ranking of 200,000 or lower. (More traffic = Lower Alexa rank) This is a built-in benefit of joining the challenge.
When you start to promote others selflessly, guess what? Others will start to promote you too.
Leave a comment on a blog and a few people may click your link. Guest posting is even better. Write an article for another blog and you are sure to get new visitors. Post a few times in the Yakezie forum and people will eventually click on your signature link.
You can do these things and you will get visitors. If you want to grow your blog traffic to better than an Alexa rank of 200,000, there’s something more. Follow this next tip and your blog’s traffic will shoot through the roof.
Focus on quality.
I’m sure this isn’t the first time you’ve heard this, but it’s worth repeating.
When you leave a useful comment rather than a “great post, I enjoyed reading it!” comment on a blog, people will be much more inclined to click your link. Writing a guest post that people want to share will do wonders for growing your blog. Add value on the Yakezie forum and people will want to see what else you have to say.
It almost goes without saying, but when you’re consistently writing quality content on your blog, the precious visitors that stop by your site will stick around and become loyal readers.
Sure, there are other factors to grow your blog. In fact, there’s so much to say about increasing blog traffic there is entire industry of bloggers blogging about blogging. However, the one factor that is the most critical to your blog’s growth is the quality of your content.
The founder of Yakezie, Sam has written more here about joining the challenge as well as benefits and tips to growing your Alexa rank.
Are You a Yakezie?
I know I’m supposed to be blogging about the personal finance promised land. That will be coming next. After introducing myself and Milk and Honey Money and officially starting the journey, I wanted to take the time to share my thoughts about Yakezie.
I believe the network is going to continue to grow and have a beneficial impact on the personal finance blogging community. I’m excited to be a part of it.
If you’re on the fence about joining Yakezie, do it! Be selfless, help others, and join a community that will do the same in return.
